Reuniting Innovation and Design
This month, we shine the spotlight on the very first “ASTA” collective house, found in Bozeman, Montana. The project was designed by architect Heather Mott and built by Collective Carpentry. The house is part of a series of three modular models, each offering several energy performance options.

Designed as an affordable alternative to traditional passive houses, ASTA is based on pre-designed plans optimized for a panelized construction system. As seen with the plan view, which shows the typical wall panel, Collective Homes are designed with Passive House principles which targets an annual heating demand of 4.75 kBTU/ft²yr.
Each model is adapted to the site to optimize sunlight, fire resistance and foundation design. Production of the ASTA took 12 days in the workshop, 2 trucks for transport, and only 5 days for on-site installation.
A special thanks to Jan Pratschke, Tanya Savas and Heather Mott, from Collective Carpentry.
We appreciate your partnership and trust over the years!
